About Us

The Pine Barrens, comprising roughly 22% of the land within the state of New Jersey, is one of (if not the most!) unique environments found on the East Coast of the United States. Over one million acres of pine forest, cedar swamps, sepia colored streams, cranberry bogs and ghost towns combine to make up a unique wilderness environment nestled between two major metropolitan areas - New York to the East and Philadelphia to the West. The Pine Barrens is a perfect place to escape the bordeom of suburban life. Narrow sand trails that once carried stagecoaches and mule trains are perfect places to hike. Restored villages such as Batsto and Allaire State Park provide a glimpse of what life was two centuries ago. Ample rivers and streams provide the perfect place to take a relaxing canoe trip. This land also serves as a reminder that our precious natural resources are finite, and that only by careful use and preservation will we be able to enjoy them in years to come. While development encroaches all around, the Pine Barrens are (relatively) safe, protected by a variety of state and federal laws. We believe that an area as majestic as the Pine Barrens deserves the best web site available. This site reflects not only the vision and passion of the designer, but the interests and knowledge of a community of people who are passionate about the Pine Barrens. This site serves to connect not only people who live in the area, but those who have an interest in the Pine Barrens - no matter where they live. Started in early 2002, this site is one of the largest and oldest community based websites for the Pine Barrens. Through our discussion forums, image galleries that members can publish their own photos to, informative articles, and occasional get-togethers we have built a community of individuals who share a common love - the Pine Barrens. |
